Overview Amanpuri Resort Phuket

There is a ‘place of peace’ nestled amongst coconut palms which leads to a private crescent beach touching brilliant turquoise sea. This place is Amanpuri, on Thailand’s jade green island of Phuket, where nature and culture harmoniously merge, yielding a pure tranquillity where less means more and luxury is found in graciousness.

Amanpuri embodies the inner spirit of the Thai culture while allowing nature to reign supreme. The natural beauty combined with sincere warmth and a genuine soul allows for complete rejuvenation.

Amanpuri translated in Sanskrit as place of peace was opened in 1988, the first born to the Aman ‘family’. This tranquil prodigy has pride of place on Phuket in a secluded natural coconut grove on a peninsula leading down to a soft, crescent shaped beach overlooking a mesmerizing turquoise Andaman Sea. Amanpuri continues to evolve with a peaceful purity, which is reflected in its gracious service, and the sympathetic construction of its pavilions, villas, and stylish midnight blue pools.

pavilions & villas

Amanpuri is Amanresorts’ flagship property. Guest accommodations consist of 40 Thai-style pavilions and 30 private Villa Homes set within a mature coconut plantation and connected by elevated walkways. All pavilions feature an outdoor sala with a sun deck and dining terrace, a king-size bed, oversized bathrooms and spacious dressing areas. Wireless broadband connections are available in all resort accommodations and public areas. Pavilion rates are determined according to view and location.

Pavilion 105 and 103 enjoy premium views of the Andaman Sea. Ocean Pavilions also have sea views, while Partial Ocean Pavilions are set further back from the shore with partial ocean views. 31 Garden Pavilions are interspersed throughout the resort’s mature coconut palms.

Amanpuri also offers 30 Villa Homes, many with ocean-front settings. Each villa consists of two to six separate bedrooms finished with Thai furnishings, art and antiques. Villas enjoy private pools plus living and dining salas. Personal housekeepers and cooks are also on hand. Amanpuri villas are ideal for small business meetings, weddings and special events.

Facilitities and Services

Cuisine

The Terrace Restaurant offers casual all-day dining in an alfresco setting and features Thai and European specialties. The Restaurant serves Italian cuisine and is open for dinner year round and lunch during high season. Both are adjacent to the swimming pool. Weather-permitting, lunches are served at the Beach Terrace.

Set just behind the beach and open during the high season, Naoki serves Chef Naoki Okumura’s original French kaiseki which combines the best of French technique with Japanese artistry. The Bar offers poolside drinks and snacks.

At last light, half a dozen moulded-brass tables and pairings of teak, rattan-backed chairs are set out along the terrace between the pool and the steps leading to the beach. The view is to the Andaman Sea and the setting sun.

A bar and lounge is also available at the Beach Club. From late November to April, weather and tide permitting, evening torch-lit barbecues are held on the beach. Room service is available 24 hours a day in the privacy of guest pavilions and outdoor salas.

Library

The Library is sun-filled and houses over 1,000 books from novels to retrospectives of Thai history and culture. A large selection of CDs, daily newspapers and magazines are also available. The Library’s lounge is ideal for a quiet, relaxing afternoon.

Gallery

The Gallery offers a selection of Asian jewellery, antiques, textiles, artifacts and Thai fabrics, along with a selection of gifts, souvenirs and general sundries.

Board room

The Boardroom includes audio equipment and an LCD projector suitable for executive meetings.

Beach club

The Beach Club is accessible from a pathway linked to the Terrace restaurant and beach. It features a 20-metre tiled pool and a Thai sala with cocktail bar and lounge seating.

Aman spa

The Aman Spa is Amanresorts’ first full service spa. Six spacious Thai-style pavilions offer an open, light-filled space of wood and glass with private steam room, shower, bath, dressing area and an outdoor meditation sala.

Healing or traditional treatments can be enjoyed individually or as a couple. Aman Spa therapists are available to tailor a treatment programme based on an assessment of a guest’s individual needs. There is also a traditional sauna, granite steam room and a fountain terrace where health drinks are served.

Complimentary guided yoga and meditation sessions are offered at daybreak in the open-sided salas set high on the hillside. The extensive Aman Spa menu includes a range of healing therapies as well as traditional treatments such as facials, body wraps, scrubs and baths.

Aman Spa products used in the treatments are handmade and incorporate essential oils and creams made from the purest ingredients derived from organically-grown plants. Spa treatments may also be enjoyed in the privacy of guest pavilions or villas.

Swimming pool

The Swimming Pool is a 27m freshwater pool finished in midnight-blue tile. At the Pool Pavilion, Thai tea is served daily in the late afternoon, and traditional Thai music is performed nightly.

Gym

The Gym is perched on a hillside with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and offers spectacular views of the Andaman Sea. The 350-square metre duplex facility features free weights and a wide range of cardiovascular equipment including Power Plate, which vibrates at high speeds and encourages muscles to contract in multiple directions.

Cardio machines are equipped with satellite TV screens with access to international news, sports and entertainment channels. Private or group classes offering Aman Pilates, a programme encompassing the highest level of instruction in Pilates and Gyrotonic® physical fitness systems, are also led in the gym. Experienced trainers are available for consultation and an adjacent juice bar provides well-deserved smoothies and blended juices.

Tennis: Six Tennis Courts are floodlit for night play. Equipment is complimentary and playing partners can be arranged. A professional tennis coach is seasonally available for lessons and training.

Tailor: A tailor is available on property; guests may choose from a large selection of fabric and organise fittings in the privacy of guest pavilions.

Internet: Wireless broadband connections are available in all pavilions and public areas.

Buggies: Buggies are available for guests who wish to be driven around the resort at any time.

Location & map

First mentioned by Ptolemy in the 2nd century, Phuket was a regular port of call for Arab and Chinese ships. Portuguese and Chinese settlements began to appear in the 18th century, and until the middle of the 19th century, tigers and elephants wandered freely in local jungles.

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and located off the country’s southern coast. It is largely mountainous with a range in the west running from north to south. The mountains of Phuket form the southern end of the Phuket mountain range which extends for 440km from the Kra Isthmus. Phuket is 50km long and 21km at its widest point.

Connected to Thailand’s Phang Nga province by bridge, the island is surrounded by the azure Andaman Sea, which joins the Indian Ocean to the south. Well over half of the island is covered by forest; the northern Khao Phra Thaeo National Park protects more than 20 square kilometres of rainforest.

Phuket is served by numerous domestic and regional flights. Bangkok is 1½ hours flying time away and has connections to major international destinations.

Complimentary private limousine transfers to and from Phuket airport are offered to guests and the 17km drive to Amanpuri takes 25 minutes.
