Our Story

Phu Chaisai Mountain Resort & Spa, one of the first boutique hotels in the North of Thailand, distinguishes itself as a family-run resort with a unique concept originated from the inspiration of M.L. Sudavdee Kriangkrai, Thailand’s leading interior designer.

Upon visiting her family’s piece of land in Chiang Rai nine years ago, she fell in love with the picturesque Doi Mae Salong surrounded by a breathtaking view of the valley below. The idea to develop the bamboo forested hills into a vacation home suddenly started forming in her head.

An artist in her own right as well as a devoted nature-lover, she started exploring and incorporating bamboo as the main construction material in homage to the area’s natural resources. Her quest for bamboo knowledge took her all over the world, seeking advice from specialists in Asia and Europe. Having truly appreciated its qualities, the first bamboo guest house was built amidst the lush green countryside under her careful supervision. The second, third, and more soon followed…

However, the idea of transforming all of this into a hotel was not born until Amnuay Kriangkrai, her husband, jokingly suggested that if she was going to continue to build so many cottages, then she should turn it into a hotel…

…and so came the birth of Phu Chaisai Mountain Resort & Spa.

The name “Phu Chaisai” is a dedication to M.L. Sudavdee’s beloved mother, Mrs. Chaisai Chakrabandhu. “My mum wanted to use this piece of land as a place for meditiation, so I fulfilled her dream.”

Our Green Concept

Phu Chaisai aims to be an environmentally-friendly and self-sufficient resort. With M.L. Sudavdee’s creative concepts, the resort has gone beyond the green concept starting from design, construction, and interior décor to even having a green lifestyle of cultivating a tea plantation, gardening, herbs and fruit farm for our own cuisine selection. Our drinking water undergoes a Reverse Osmosis (RO) process – a highly recognized water purification system, guaranteeing safe consumption.

Phu Chaisai Resort & Spa also supports the local community by employing local villagers and hill tribes. By training the local staff with hospitality, culinary, and service skills; Phu Chaisai not only gives back to the surrounding community but guests can expect to receive a warm welcome and pleasant stay with a touch of Thailand’s northern tradition.

Our 50 rooms are spread over three hills.

The first and original, Resort Hill, which holds 35 rooms, truly is an oasis of spirituality for those who seek refuge from the rigors of their daily routine and find solace in being reunited with Mother Nature. Television sets and electronic alarm clocks are absent from most rooms so that our guests can rise to the sound of an awakening forest. When dusk falls, one can also fully enjoy the bewitching moonlit sky. This hill contains the Superior, Deluxe, Executive, Honeymoon Suites and One bedroom Pool Villa.

The second hill, Baan Thai, is comprised of 11 Thai villas for guests who would like to experience the true touch of original Thai houses. This hill overlooks the fresh organic garden and is encircled by our secluded fragrant rose garden. This hill contains the Thai Deluxe Villas, Thai Executive Villas, and the Thai Pool Villas.

Last, but certainly not the least, the Owner’s Villa hill is where all the big villas are located for you and has been compared to more than just a room, but like a home away from home.

Facilities

Swimming Pool

Carved into the hillside on a secluded site of the resort, an infinity pool with a modern design using black mosaic overlooks the lush valleys and distant mountains. Take a dip or lounge on the sundeck and order your favourite drinks from the pool bar. This is also an ideal spot to curl up reading your book or a glossy magazine in the afternoon while waiting for the sun to set at the horizon.

Meeting & Conference

Conduct your meeting while absorbing the nature and peaceful in bamboo style in our 2 function rooms.

Our main conference room can accommodate up to 100 persons with full meeting equipments. While another meeting at our bamboo sala can accommodate up to 35 persons intimating mountain and breathtaking fresh air.

Boutique and Souvenir Shop

A small boutique selling carefully selected local souvenirs as traditional clothings or bags. Also our own Phu Chaisai products like potteries , bags , t-shirts , our Oolong tea and homemade Phu Chaisai jam from seasonal fruits at our fruit farm : passion fruit , mulberry , strawberry etc.

Phu View Restaurant & Bar

An open-air restaurant with a panoramic view of Doi Mae Salong offers an extensive simple menu serving both local and international dishes. Try Sai Oua, Thai northern sausage, which are made fresh in our kitchen or try pizza from our own traditional brick-oven. Breads are also baked fresh daily.

If you are looking for a healthy dish, try our signature Phu Chaisai’s salad which uses vegetables and herbs that are grown organically in our farm, following His Majesty the King’s self-sufficiency policy and our commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

In the evening, a pianist will perform your favourite tunes creating a lively ambience. Don’t forget to sip a drink from our bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Bamboo Spa

We believe that true health is achieved only when the body and mind are balanced and in harmony with nature. With this in mind we have created a heaven of relaxation and tranquility set in truly unique, beautiful mountain forest surroundings.

Our spa treatments are based on natural and organic products and ancient therapies from all over Asia based on knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

Activities

For guests who want to get even closer to nature, there are marked trails that crisscross the expansive property and can be traversed on foot or on the back of an elephant. The resort also offers golfing at nearby golf courses such as Santiburi or WaterfordValley. Other activities in resort are offered as the following :

Elephant Riding

In our own mountains and jungle, you will have delightful experience riding our elephants in the safe howdah. The shortest ride is 30 minutes around the resort. For 1 hr ride, you will explore the nature while sitting on the friendly creatures, visit the hill tribe village, and watch the romantic sunset from the hilltop.

Pottery Class (08.00 – 17.00 hrs.)

We strongly recommend to use your imagination with the clay and experience sensation of the clay. Our professional potter sits at the pottery-making corner waiting to teach and advise you on how to make the clay to be in gestures. We also offer baking and delivery services.

Thai Cooking Class (1 day advance booking is required) 1 hour

A great experience to learn famous Thai cuisine with Khun Nor, our well experienced executive chef. Khun Nor will share with you her cooking secrets including ingredients, preparation and presentation tips of the most popular Thai dishes. At the end of the class, you will enjoy dinning delicious food in the beautiful surrounding of the Phu View restaurant

Umbrella Painting Class (08.00 – 17.00 hrs.)

Creating your imagination and painting skill on the paper umbrella and taking home with you your own unique style of umbrella as souvenir.

Horse Riding

Enjoy horseback riding with Khun Mok, a well-experienced horseman who will teach you the ropes of riding a smaller breed of horse that is said to have come from Mongolia. The adventure begins at the Sree Mok farm near by the resort through the peaceful mountains and jungle region of Phu Chaisai.

Walk Rally & Trekking (1 day advance booking is required) 09.00 – 18.00 hrs.

Guided and Lead by professional local staff on a trekking tour from the resort to the Phu Camp where the delicious Thai lunch will be served. Sighting on the way flocks of teal and tea plantation and experience tea picking and testing. Return to the resort from the Phu Camp by the Bamboo raft and enjoy romantic dinner at Hilltop Villa.

Rafting (1 day advance booking is required) 09.00 – 16.00 hrs.

Take your pick of the leisurely bamboo rafting on tranquil rivers in the North or the more exciting whitewater rafting. If you are not a shrinking violet then give it a go!
